Digital Scholarship Compañeros: Digitizing a Human Rights Archive in Guatemala with Librarians, Undergraduates, and Lawyers: Alex Galarza, Brie Gettleson, Andrew Janco This session is a roundtable discussion of ways of centering student work and scholarship in the creation of a digital archive by Haverford College’s Magill Library in partnership with the Guatemalan human rights group Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo (GAM). The project is digitizing GAM’s physical archive using a post-custodial method and creating public-facing digital scholarship projects designed to aid in human rights trials and historical memory of Cold War violence in Guatemala. Panelists will explain their roles and then explore the challenges and opportunities of balancing student initiative with the needs of the project and partner organization.
